Copper as discovered around 9000 BC in the Middle East and is one of the only elements that occurs un-compounded in nature. In ancient Greece copper was associated with the goddess Venus because of its shininess. Copper has been used in many ancient civilizations for piping and now a day is used in a variety of things such as cars, currency, and even artwork. Copper is mined out of the ground and South American countries like Peru have a lot of copper. Copper has an atomic number of 29 and an atomic mass of 63.546. Copper has 29 protons and electrons and has 64 neutrons. At room temperature copper is a solid, its melting point is 1357.77 K, and its radius is 145 pm. The electron configuration for copper is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s1 3d10. There are two valence electrons in copper and has four energy levels.
I got the idea for my print from searching “common uses of copper into Google.” Copper roofing was first used in Ancient Greece as a cover over roofing because it was able to keep water from seeping into the house. Copper roofs are still used today but not as commonly.
I made my plate by first drawing my house and roof onto normal paper then copying it onto tracing paper. I later put the tracing paper on linoleum so that the trace would transfer onto the linoleum. Making the prints was the hardest part of the whole project. First you had to chose a color and roll it onto the linoleum. Second you had to place the linoleum on a piece of paper so that the paint will transfer onto the paper. Third you have to use a wooden spoon to press onto the paper making sure that all of the print is copied on the paper.
My favorite parts of this project was carving out the linoleum and mixing the colors that were used on the print. If I were to do this project again I would make a cooler print because mine is kind of boring.
